lat pulldown or dumbell rows

Pull-ups!

If I had to pick between the two though I would go with the lat pulldown, but if you can do pull ups that would be even better.

I would agree with the two posts above. Pullups for your lats. If I had my choice between pulldowns and DB rows, I would go with the rows. JMO.

No need to make a choice. Do them both. Include pullups also as others have stated. Or rotate them session by session.

if you do pullups/pulldowns, make sure you extend your arms all the way so your lat gets a bit stretched;) since then you use it more, i dident feel it in my lats from pullups before i started this, im sore now as im typing;)

do CHINUPS work your lats just as much as pullups?
not if you are doing a close-grip (which is the standard). The wider grip will pinpoint the latissimus dorsi more than a closer grip.

Well i don't have lat pulldown so i don't have much of a choice of the two i was just wondering which one is better. I don't have anywhere i can do pullups either i think unless if there's a beam in or out the house i can do it on. Thanks for the replies though...

Both! I do both and find it effective. You on a time limit or something.

Not really, it was discussion topic at school. I don't have the facilities to do both. On back day i also do biceps and legs so my workout is already about an hour anyway. I'll have to find somehwere to do pullups.
